High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ)
When a manual plunger or a set of drain rods isn’t enough to clear a blockage, High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ) is the ultimate solution. This advanced cleaning method uses water propulsion at pressures up to 4000psi to blast away the toughest obstructions, restoring your drains to near-new condition.
At TrueFlow, we equip every van with professional jetting units, ensuring we can tackle any blockage, anywhere in Bracknell, Wokingham, and the surrounding Berkshire area.
What is Drain Jetting?
Think of it as a power washer for the inside of your pipes, but significantly more powerful. A specialized hose with a nozzle is fed into the drain. The nozzle has rear-facing water jets that propel the hose forward into the pipe, while a forward-facing jet (or “pencil jet”) blasts through any obstruction in its path.
The sheer force of the water scours the internal surface of the pipe, cutting through grease, silt, and roots, and flushing the debris downstream to the main sewer. It is the most effective way to clean drains without digging them up.
What Does Jetting Remove?
Drain jetting is versatile and can handle a wide variety of blockage types that manual tools simply cannot shift.
1. Fatbergs and Grease
In kitchen drains and commercial sewers, cooking fat cools and solidifies, mixing with wet wipes to form “fatbergs.” These are rock-hard and stick to the pipe walls. Jetting cuts through this fat like a hot knife, breaking it into small pieces that can flow away harmlessly.
2. Tree Roots
Roots from nearby trees and shrubs can find their way into drain joints in search of water. Once inside, they form a fibrous mass that catches tissue and waste. We use specialist “root cutting” nozzles that spin at high speed to slice through these roots, clearing the pipe diameter.
3. Scale and Mineral Deposits
In hard water areas like Berkshire, scale builds up inside cast iron and clay pipes, reducing their flow capacity (like a narrowed artery). Jetting descales the pipe, restoring its original bore and preventing future blockages.
4. Silt and Debris
Construction runoff, sand, and soil can settle in the bottom of drains, reducing flow. Jetting flushes this heavy sediment out, which is essential for storm drains and Aco channels.
When Do You Need Jetting?
- Recurring Blockages: If you find yourself unblocking the same drain every few months, there is likely a build-up of scale or grease that rods are missing. Jetting cleans the pipe wall-to-wall.
- Before a CCTV Survey: If a drain is holding water, a camera cannot see anything. We jet the line to clear the water and clean the pipe walls so the CCTV survey can see structural defects clearly.
- Commercial Maintenance: Restaurants and hotels should have their lines jetted regularly (every 3-6 months) to prevent fat build-up and emergency closures.
- Odour Removal: Bacteria thriving in the sludge coating your pipes cause bad smells. Jetting washes this sludge away, removing the source of the odour.
Our Jetting Technology
We don’t just use one nozzle for every job. Our engineers carry a kit of specialist heads:
- Standard Jet: For general cleaning and flushing.
- Bomb Jet: A heavy head for driving through heavy silt and sand.
- Spinning Jet: Rotates to clean 360 degrees of the pipe wall (great for fat).
- Root Cutter: Uses a chain or blade system to saw through root ingress.
Safety and Environment
High pressure water is dangerous if mishandled. All TrueFlow engineers are trained in the safe use of HPWJ equipment. We also ensure that we protect your property from splashback during the operation.
- Chemical-Free: Jetting uses only water, making it an environmentally friendly option compared to pouring harsh chemicals down the sink.
- Safe for Pipes: When used correctly, jetting is safe for clay, plastic, and cast iron pipes. We adjust the pressure (psi) to suit the material and condition of your drainage system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will jetting damage my old pipes? Our engineers assess the age and material of your pipes before starting. We can regulate the pressure. For very old or fragile pitch fibre pipes, we may use lower pressure or alternative methods to avoid damage.
How long does it take? A standard jetting session to clear a residential blockage typically takes around an hour. More intensive descaling or root cutting jobs may take longer.
Can you jet a toilet? We do not jet directly through the toilet bowl as the pressure would damage the ceramic and cause flooding in the bathroom. We access the system via an external manhole or inspection chamber and jet upstream towards the blockage.
Is it noisy? The jetting unit runs off a diesel engine, so there is some noise (similar to a lawnmower). We always try to minimize disruption and will not operate late at night in residential areas unless it is a dire emergency.
